Five vital questions I believe you should ask potential agents.
Picking an agent to sell your home is a big choice! You want a professional who knows what they’re doing, and can confidently guide you through the stressful process. To help you pick someone like that, I’ll give you five questions you should ask when interviewing agents:
1. How long have you been working as a full-time Realtor? Notice that the assumption here is that you’re only speaking with full-time Realtors. Your home is one of your biggest investments—make sure you’re working with someone capable of making a full-time living doing the job you’re hiring them to do.
2. How many sales did you close last year? This question is about checking their track record, and you can decide what number you want it to be around. You at least want to ensure that they have some experience and success. If not, who are they getting advice from?
“The right agent will guide you through every step.”
3. Do you work with a team or as an individual? This is about understanding the process. Once you start working with this agent, are there other people that will be involved in the conversation? Which end of the spectrum you prefer is up to you, but it is important that you know what you’re getting into.
4. How would you arrive at the listing price for my home? In my opinion, pricing a home is part science and part art. They should have a strategy that meets your needs, and you should be able to understand that strategy.
5. What are you going to do to market my home in a challenging market? This question is especially important right now. The agent should have a plan that includes more than the bare minimum. The right agent will guide you through every step.
Those are the top five questions I think you should ask when interviewing an agent. If you have any questions you would add, or if you’d like to see what my answers are to these questions, feel free to reach out by phone or email. I look forward to hearing from you!
